Oxford University has begun human trials with 1,110 participants on a promising vaccine that can trigger the immune system to fight off and provide protection against COVID-19. Half of the participants will receive the vaccine, and the other half will receive a placebo. The experimental vaccine has worked well in protecting rhesus macaque monkeys who were heavily exposed to COVID-19, thus providing hope it will do the same for humans. If this study is successful, scientists hope to have the vaccine widely available by September. This and more in today’s Wayne County Report.
