COVID-19 UPDATE: Trends both here and in Europe do not look promising

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, at least 31 states, including Michigan, are now seeing an increase in new COVID-19 cases compared to the previous week. The only four states that are seeing a decline are Connecticut, Delaware, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, a rebound in cases in Berlin and elsewhere in Europe is fueling concerns among public-health authorities about a second wave of infections following the lifting of lockdowns across the continent.

In Berlin, daily new coronavirus cases shot back up to levels last seen in April after weeks of steady fall. The Berlin state government said it would start imposing fines for violations of a mask-wearing requirement that has been in place for weeks but not enforced.

Those issues and more in the most recent Wayne Country Daily Reports.
